We can assist you with one-off component design through to complex processes and assemblies. Arex will also work with existing designs to identify potential problems and issues ensuring a better final result. Using stringent Quality Management Systems, 2D and 3D CAD software as well as other analysis programs and customised in-house software tools, we can deliver reliable designs and drawings. Examples of our work
When looking at system efficiencies, Sims Metal Management identified an opportunity to collect fall-off materials during the scrap metal shredding process. These could be potentially be re-fed into the system thereby reducing wastage. Sims Metal approached Arex Precision with their ideas and in collaboration a solution was investigated, designed and manufactured. The new equipment is a “Re-feeder System” which collects materials throughout the day and feeds them back through the process overnight.
A debris conveyor is at the bottom of the conveyor food chain. It’s the conveyor that catches residual fall-off material when bales are released from the baler during the recycling process. These materials can be added back into the process, reducing wastage. The debris conveyor has many challenges to overcome:
- debris can be any size or material type
- it will be seldomly maintained
- it can often get quite wet
- it needs to be affordable. Current models struggle to meet all these requirements and the conveyor size means that replacement chains are costly.
Phoenix Systems Australia brought their challenge to Arex and sought a solution. Through their expert knowledge of conveyors and ingenuity, Arex have been able to design and test a new debris conveyor model for the market. The new robust design doesn’t require any chains, reducing the need for expensive parts replacement and is able to take a variety of materials including sharp metal pieces. The design also requires less maintenance, meeting all the specifications that have hitherto proven challenging.
Supply trailer towbar for underground use
Towbars were breaking like toothpicks and the supply trailers needed regular towing. Although inexpensive as an individual item, the short lifespan of the towbars in use at Glencore Tahmoor Colliery was that short that replacement costs were starting to rise. This meant that in the long run, cheap wasn't the best solution. Arex Precision was approached to review the current towbars and assist with a solution. The result was a complete redesign of the towbar within the specific equipment dimensions - Glencore didn’t want to have to change their trailers to fix the towbar breakage issue, they wanted towbars with better lifespans. The new towbar had a removable pintle and reinforcements making it virtually unbreakable. Being able to remove the pintle meant that should the pintle break, the bar could be reused or the other way around, if the pintle broke the bar could be reused. The changes increased the towbar lifespan, resulting in significant cost savings. Glencore simply now needs to keep a few replacement parts on hand for the few breakages that may occur.
Rail Coupler Removal
Disconnecting train parts for overhaul and repair can be tricky business. Some parts can be difficult to work with. Removing the coupler from trains for overhaul and repair was time consuming and required too much manpower, there had to be a better way. The solution needed to be easy to use, be able to withstand the correct weight requirements and deliver overall efficiencies for Voith Turbo. Voith Turbo approached Arex and through collaboration a Coupler Removal Tool for a forklift was designed and built. The tool has 3 components, the forklift attachment, the coupler tool itself and a transporting unit to transport the coupler from point A to point B. The tool is currently undergoing field trials.
